EonStor GSx Family

High-Performance Parallel File Storage for Enterprises

Scalable storage solutions enabling high-performance data access in parallel
Overview

EonStor GSx is an enterprise storage solution facilitating high-performance parallel file access in applications handling large data volumes. GSx enables data access through concurrent I/O operations, leveraging the combined performance of multiple GSx appliances. As your application requirements evolve, you can simply add a new GSx unit to the cluster to linearly increase performance. With its unmatched performance, GSx is ideally suited for demanding HPC and AI applications.

EonStor GSx greatly simplifies IT architecture and deployment by eliminating the need for I/O nodes and metadata servers. Furthermore, GSx does not require parallel file system software. For seamless integration within enterprises, GSx is compatible with client hosts running Linux OS platforms.

The EonStor GSx product lineup includes U.2 NVMe SSD and SAS HDD models with dual redundant controllers. This provides flexibility for selecting the perfect solution based on your application’s budget allocations and requirements.

Models

U.2 NVMe All-Flash Storage

EonStor GSx U.2 all-flash series utilizes U.2 NVMe SSDs to deliver ultra-high IOPS and throughput performance with a low latency, which makes them a perfect choice for HPC and AI applications that prioritize speed and responsiveness. The GSx U.2 series offers GSx 5000U and 4000U models available in 2U 24-bay form factor.

SAS HDD Storage

EonStor GSx SAS HDD series provides high capacity, high performance, and cost-effectiveness, allowing you to choose the product that best fits your application needs. This series offers GSx 4000 high-density models available in 4U 60-bay and 4U 90-bay that are perfectly suited for traditional HPC applications operating with massive data volumes.

Features

Ultra-High Performance with Parallel File Access

EonStor GSx facilitates parallel data processing from multiple GSx appliances to deliver ultra-high performance for accessing sheer volumes of data. GSx evenly distributes data in the cluster using the intelligent data allocation mechanism, striping large files across multiple GSx appliances. When client hosts send requests for data access, GSx swiftly locates data paths and enables direct and simultaneous data access from the data-owning GSx appliances. Compared to non-parallel file systems such as scale-out NAS, such approach effectively reduces the time required for locating and accessing data. Additionally, by employing block protocol for file transfer, GSx eliminates file protocol overhead, maximizing performance for demanding applications.

By striping large files across multiple GSx appliances, the GSx cluster facilitates simultaneous data access from these appliances, leveraging their combined performance:

Ultra-High Performance with Parallel File Access

With a single GSx unit featuring up to 43GB/s read and 16.5GB/s write throughput performance, the GSx cluster linearly increases performance as you add new GSx units. Consequently, a cluster of 10 GSx units delivers nearly 10 times the performance of a single GSx, facilitating seamless parallel file access.

High Scalability

EonStor GSx features high scalability to meet the growing demands of ever-expanding datasets. Scale-out function empowers enterprises to dramatically expand both performance and capacity by adding up to 10 appliances to the cluster. For GSx SAS HDD models, the scale-up feature facilitates capacity expansion, with each GSx storage appliance connecting to a JBOD expansion enclosure to add over 180 drives.

Moreover, GSx supports a single namespace architecture allowing users to seamlessly access and manage data.

High Scalability

Easy Deployment and Management

EonStor GSx integrates functions of I/O nodes and metadata servers directly into GSx appliances. This dramatically simplifies IT architecture and deployment of parallel file storage, offering organizations a straightforward solution of high-performance parallel file access storage for their I/O-intensive workloads. Additionally, special wizards facilitate GSx cluster deployment, guiding IT administrators through the entire system installation process.

EonOne, the web-based management software tool provided with the EonStor GSx parallel file storage system, is designed to easily set up configurations for increased productivity. Its intuitive interface simplifies the tasks of IT administrators, allowing them to effectively manage multiple GSx appliances, monitor performance and capacity usage, and configure GSx systems, all through a centralized platform.

Easy Deployment and Management

Space-Saving Architecture

When considering a traditional parallel file system architecture, enterprises must prepare metadata servers, multiple I/O node servers, and allocate rack space in the data center. EonStor GSx, on the other hand, offers a solution that eliminates the need for this additional hardware.

Furthermore, GSx doesn’t require installing additional parallel file system software, as its functionality is already included to enable parallel file access.

Space-Saving Architecture

High Efficiency

For higher performance in accessing frequently used data, EonStor GSx SAS HDD models support SSD cache that stores metadata and small files in SSDs. By using only a few U.2 NVMe SSDs, GSx SAS HDD storage can effortlessly accelerate I/O operations while providing large storage capacity.

High Efficiency

Data Protection

EonStor GSx parallel file storage provides robust data protection mechanisms to safeguard against various risks. First, RAID 5/6 technology helps the system to run normally and ensures your data is fully protected even in the case of a drive failure. As an additional layer of protection against disasters such as hardware failures or catastrophic on-site events, you can back up data to a remote location using the remote replication feature to enable effective disaster recovery measures.

Data Protection

Major Client Host OS Compatibility

EonStor GSx can work with client hosts running on major OS platforms. GSx ensures compatibility with Linux and Windows systems through client agents enabling parallel file access. Furthermore, GSx supports the most popular file-sharing protocols: NFS – for Linux-based systems and CIFS – for Windows environments.
